Well, we didn’t say everything on here would be cheap! This one has 4 stars out of 40 customer reviews and costs $136. It also comes with a warranty to repair and replace it free of charge. It alerts you if you’re being exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, and it’s compact-sized to fit on a keychain. A purchaser noted that it didn’t even set off alarms when he carried it through TSA security, but that is not guaranteed! Another purchaser said it comes with a booklet to help understand the readings.

4. Camping Pocket Chainsaw

You never know when you’ll need to saw down tree limbs, but you may not be able to carry huge tools with you while you’re out surviving. So a Pocket Chainsaw is a perfect choice. This one, for $26.80, is available with prime shipping. We haven’t tried this particular version (we tried this one that’s currently unavailable), but it has 5 stars out of 187 reviews and people have said it works great. Looks like it’ll make a great survival saw and a great gift.

5. Survivor Filter: Ultimate Water Filter Straw

This is one of our favorite books on how to survive a nuclear war. It’s a new edition of Cresson H. Kearny’s book originally published in 1979, updated by Kearny himself in 2001.
