What is Starship Troopers: Terran Command?
Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a real-time strategy game for PC published by Slitherine Software, which has published a number of other real-time strategy games in popular franchises such as Stargate: Timekeepers, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, and Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance. Players control the Terran military as they combat hordes of Arachnids, a group of alien, bug-like creatures. Progressing through the story campaign unlocks the ability to control new, more powerful units and to upgrade those that survived previous combats.
The game received its first main DLC in 2023 titled Raising Hell. It introduced a scenario editor, allowing players to create their own custom missions, as well as 7 campaign missions and 3 challenge missions. Raising Hell puts the player in charge of the Terran military as they try to take over the fiery, volcanic planet of Gehenna using new mercenary units like the Powered Suit Incinerator and Shredder Mercs. It also adds new Arachnid threats like the Stinger and Immolator.
The Starship Troopers film was released to the big screen in 1997 to mixed reviews but has since become a cult-hit and science fiction staple. It has enjoyed a renewal of interest with games like Starship Troopers: Terran Command and the immensely popular “Starship Troopers in all but name” Helldivers 2. The film takes place in the 23rd century during an interstellar war between humanity and the Arachnids. The war with the bugs is set amongst the satirical backdrop of a dystopian, authoritarian, and fascist society in which troopers willingly throw their lives away to questionably “protect liberty and democracy.”
