The new The Walking Dead spin-off we’ve been waiting for is so close, we can almost taste it! Rick and Michonne (played by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira) will once again grace our screens and bring with them a whole slew of new characters. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (also nicknamed TWD Rick and Michonne by TWD Family members) is set to premiere on February 25 on AMC and AMC+. But is it going to air early for AMC+ subscribers? Let’s take a look.
TWD: The Ones Who Live Airs February 25 on AMC+
Unfortunately, it looks like The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will not be available to AMC+ subscribers early and will, instead, air at the same time as the episodes release on TV, every Sunday at 9PM EST. The only difference is that AMC+ subscribers will be able to watch the new spin-off episodes on demand after the time of airing.
Back in November, AMC made the announcement that The Ones Who Live would be premiering Sunday, February 25, 2024 on AMC and AMC+. They also confirmed that the show is executive-produced by showrunners Scott M. Gimple, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath. The series will comprise six episodes and is planned as a limited series. A limited series that, we hope, will result in new spin-offs and more of Rick and Michonne on screen.
What is the Rick and Michonne Series About?
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live tracks the individual journeys of Rick and Michonne who were separated years ago when Rick detonated a bridge to thwart a horde of walkers. Injured in the explosion, Rick was rescued by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and handed over to a secretive organization that airlifted him away. Believing him to be deceased, Michonne later obtained evidence of his survival and now embarks on a quest to locate him.
Michonne forms bonds with fellow travelers in a nomadic caravan who support her on her quest. Conversely, Rick finds himself within the Civic Republic, a fortified community situated in the former Philadelphia area, where strict barriers are upheld. Despite numerous unsuccessful escape efforts, Rick opts to fully integrate into the Civic Republic Military, an enigmatic group that has made enigmatic appearances throughout various shows within the Walking Dead Universe, as he gears up for another attempt at liberty.
According to the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, 89% of 9 critics offered a positive assessment of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Kaiya Shunyata from Roger Ebert said “Each time Lincoln and Gurira are on screen it becomes clear that while the spinoffs have been entertaining, they were missing the kind of sincerity these two actors bring to the table. When they think of each other — often showcased through narration — it feels as if we are intruding on something we shouldn’t be watching or listening to. After so many years, they are still able to perfectly embody a longing these two characters have for each other, and it’s quite easy to get swept up in the romance and forget you’re watching a show where the backdrop is a world ravaged by a zombie apocalypse. ”
The Ones Who Live premieres Sunday, February 25, 2024 on AMC and AMC+.
