Dune is finally releasing online and in theaters. The movie will be available beginning the evening of Thursday, October 21. But will you be able to watch it on your favorite streaming service? The answer is that only one service is going to have the movie to watch online at this time, unfortunately.
Dune Won’t Be Available on Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon
There’s been a bit of confusion on where to watch Dune online, especially since some shows are released on both HBO Max and Hulu, among other streaming services. But in this case, Dune will only be available to stream on HBO Max.
Dune is produced by Legendary Entertainment, who acquired the rights after Paramount Pictures failed to produce a new movie. Warner Bros. Pictures released the movie internationally on September 15 (which is why you might already have seen some reviews before it was available in the U.S.) Warner Bros. is continuing its tradition of releasing its movies simultaneously on HBO Max to when the movies are released in theaters.

The movie will NOT be available to stream on Hulu or even on Hulu with Live TV. You might be used to streaming some HBO Max shows (like Rick and Morty) on Hulu, but this option isn’t available for Dune.
It also won’t be streamable on Netflix or on Disney Plus, because HBO Max has sole rights to the movie. Unlike A Quiet Place II, this one won’t be streamable on Paramount Plus either.

Watch Other Iterations of Dune on Amazon

As for releasing on Amazon, the movie may eventually be available there, but it will take some time before you can rent it on Amazon. For now, it’s not available there either.
However, you can compare and contrast Dune to some earlier iterations which are available on Amazon. The 1984 Dune movie by David Lynch is available for streaming at this link. You can rent the HD version for just 99 cents or buy it for $7.99.
Dune World isn’t available for streaming but you can get a DVD here.
The Children of Dune series can be streamed on Prime Video here but not in the U.S.
The synopsis for the new Dune movie reads: “A gifted young man must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over a precious resource, only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
