What is Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead About?
“Hepburn: Zon 100 ~ Zonbi ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto ~,” also known as “Zom 100: 100 Things I Want to do Before I Become a Zombie,” is a manga series originating from Japan. The story is written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. Since October 2018, it has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X, a manga magazine aimed at adult male readers. As of June 2023, the series has been compiled into fourteen tankōbon volumes. Viz Media holds the license for the English release of the manga in North America.
The live-action will follow the same storyline as the manga and anime, and the plot will remain the same. It will be interesting to see how they can condense everything in a 2 hour movie.
The series follows Akira Tendo, a twenty-something office worker employed by ZLM. He discovers himself trapped in a routine and meaningless life, lacking drive and motivation due to disillusionment with his career. However, when a zombie apocalypse unexpectedly strikes Tokyo, turning people into mindless zombies, everything is turned upside down.
Instead of succumbing to dread, Akira sees this as an opportunity to experience life to the fullest, breaking free from his humdrum existence. He decides to create a “bucket list” of everything he wants to do before dying, showcasing that he is still alive and well, and approaching it with a newfound sense of purpose.
With the company of his friend Kencho, Akira embarks on a number of exciting and frequently bizarre excursions throughout the zombie-infested city. Their pranks range from simple pleasures like eating at expensive restaurants for free to more extravagant pursuits like going on roller coasters and visiting haunted houses.
As they make their way through the dangerous streets swarming with flesh-eating zombies, Akira and Kencho encounter other survivors who have their own motivations for surviving. Along the journey, they forge odd alliances, face their own anxieties, and learn the importance of friendship and the human spirit’s ability to persevere in the face of difficulty.
