HBO’s The Last Of Us continues to blow people’s minds with only 2 episodes out so far in its series. The show is so successful that a second season has already been announced by Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann. Here’s what we know about The Last Of Us Season 2.

The Last Of Us Season 2 Announced

The first episode of The Last of Us was seen by 22 million people in the United States alone and won the heart of many people, gamers and non-gamers alike. The announcement was made on Twitter by TLOU’s executive producer Neil Drunkmann who retweeted HBO’s official announcement.

The decision to continue the show is not unexpected, given it has been well received by both reviewers and viewers. Episode 2 attracted 5.7 million people across HBO and HBO Max in the U.S. this past Sunday, and it had a 97% critical acceptance rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s the biggest week-to-week increase in viewership for any drama series on HBO. The first episode was seen by 4.7 million people.

“I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey,” commented Druckmann, according to Variety

“The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with Season 2! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you.”

Executive Producer Craig Mazin chimed in “I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey. The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.”

Although the announcement shows that the series will be available on HBO Max, it is unclear if it will also air on HBO. It is to be confirmed, however, we should expect it to be the same as season 1 and air weekly on HBO.

Fans of the Show Overly Happy

The response for this news has been nothing but well received. People all over the internet rejioce in knowing that they will see more of Joel and Ellie on the screen, but gamers especially are excited to see the live action take place.

Together with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, as well as Rose Lam, Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, president of the game production firm Naughty Dog, serve as executive producers for this project. HBO and Sony Pictures Television worked together to produce the series as a co-production. Producing companies include PlayStation Productions, The Mighty Mint, Naughty Dog, and Word Games.
