While the third season of Snowpiercer was already confirmed back in December of last year (and a fourth season confirmed in July!), the actual release date of that Season 3 premiere was only just confirmed today. So now we know that we only have to wait until January 24 of next year for more Melanie, Layton, Till, and Mr. Wilford!

Without giving away too many spoilers, the hit show left off last March with an exciting Season 2 finale that showed Layton commanding a 10-car “pirate train” that would break off from the main train to find Melanie. But she was no where to be found at the research facility, so now Layton and Alex must continue Melanie’s research, reconnect the trains, and save humanity. Piece of cake!
The continuation of the story into seasons 3 and 4 is a no-brainer considering the fact that Snowpiercer debuted as the #1 cable entertainment show in May of 2020 and carried on that legacy throughout the whole year to make it last year’s top cable program as well. The first two seasons reached 32 million viewers, so we’re all anxious to see if that trend can continue through 2022 and beyond.
The second season debuted on January 25 of this tear, so it’s nice to see the network sticking to that same schedule. With both the first and second seasons containing 10 episodes each, it’s a sure bet that seasons 3 and 4 may hit that same number.

Aside from the impressive viewership numbers enjoyed by the show, it’s also won a few prestigious awards. That first season earned Snowpiercer a win at the Seoul International Drama Awards for Most Popular Foreign Drama and Daveed Diggs won Best Actor in an Action Series for his portrayal of reluctant leader Andre Layton. The show was also nominated for six other awards including the Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Fiction and the Critics’ Choice Super Award for Best Actress in an Action Series for both Jennifer Connelly (Melanie) and Alison Wright (Ruth).
