Are you enjoying Stranger Things Season 4? The paranormal sci-fi thriller has set streaming records and even broken Netflix this week but it’s Millie Bobby Brown’s next role that has us most interested.

Brown will star in The Electric State, a post-apocalyptic thriller based on the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, who also inspired the Amazon Prime series Tales from the Loop. Joe and Anthony Russo (famed director team that worked on the Avenger movies) will direct and there’s a rumor that Chris Pratt will also star.

“Set in a post-apocalyptic 1997, The Electric State is the story of Michelle who, accompanied by her toy robot Skip, sets out across the western United States in a stolen car to find her missing brother,” the novel’s synopsis reads. “Told in achingly melancholy, spare prose and featuring almost a hundred gorgeous, full-colour illustrations, The Electric State is a novel like no other.”

On IMDB, the early plot summary describes: “The year is 1997. A teenager is in space through a dystopian United States together with a little yellow robot. Along the roads, the wreck rises after huge warriors along with the rubbish of a high-tech consumer society in decline. As they approach the coast, the world falls together at a faster rate, as if the hollow core of civilization eventually collapsed beyond the horizon.”

Along with the Russo Brothers, the screenplay is being written by fellow Avengers alumni Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

While the Russo Brothers stated in 2020 that they were aiming for a traditional theatrical release for the film (right when theaters were closing during the pandemic), the movie has been picked up by Netflix for an unknown release date.
