Madam Azumabito (aka Lady Kiyomi) is the woman who helped Udo in Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 4, and then who talked with Tybur in Season 4 Episode 5. But just who is she? Here are all the clues we have so far.

This article will have spoilers for Season 4 Episode 5, but the article itself is manga-spoiler-free. Please don’t add spoilers from the manga in the comments. Thanks. 🙂

She Had Special Access to Tybur

She’s very important and was able to get special access to Tybur before he spoke. She has two personal guards wherever she goes, and appears to be close to Tybur personally. She told him, “You look courageous. My whole clan knows how brave you are. I wish you the best of luck.”

Although Tybur first addressed her as Madam Azumabito, he then says: “I appreciate it, Lady Kiyomi.”

She Left Before Tybur’s Event Happened

There’s more than meets the eye with her. After meeting with Tybur, she and her guards decide to leave and not stay for the show. She tells them: “Now then, shall we leave?

Not only did she appear to already have advanced knowledge of what he was going to say, but she also is getting out of town before the event happens. Did she have an idea of what Eren was going to do too? That’s the last time we saw her, but it was fairly eye-opening.

She Has Sympathy for Eldians

She was sensitive to the plight of the Eldians in the previous episode by hiding that Udo spilled a drink on her and pretending she spilled it herself.

“Who knows what would’ve happened to you,” she told Udo when he asked why she helped him.

She’s an Easterner from Hizuru

Gabi said in Season 4 Episode 4 that the woman was an Easterner from Hizuru. This is fascinating because we learned in a previous season that Mikasa was the last of her clan to be alive (but, as we later learned, that was only relevant on Paradis and not in the entire world.) Is it possible that Mikasa’s mother is from the same clan as Lady Kiyomi?

In Episode 4, we saw her walking away and that she had an “A” embroidered on the back of her kimono. This led me to wonder at the time if she might be part of the Ackerman clan. However, we learned in Episode 5 that her last name is Azumabito, which accounts for the A.

Still, one has to wonder if she’s from Mikasa’s mother’s clan, or perhaps Levi’s Ackerman clan. Or perhaps the men guarding her are Ackermans. If either of these theories are true, then she’d be related to Mikasa either way. Mikasa’s dad is an Ackerman and her mother is from an Eastern clan. She and her mother were said to be the last of their race, which made them the target of human traffickers. Her bloodline originated from the far east and both her mother’s clan and Levi’s clan (and her father’s) are immune to the Royal Family’s power that erases memories (which we learned in Episode 43, Sin). Both bloodlines were persecuted after they turned their backs on the king.

Is it possible that Lady Kiyomi’s guards were immune to the “Scream” power? Or that she herself is?

Whatever the case, Lady Kiyomi has power that many other world leaders do not, she’s close to Tybur, and she knew enough to not want to stay for Tybur’s ceremony. She’s also sympathetic to the Eldians. Whatever the truth is regarding her family and nobility, it’s going to be interesting.
