Eighty-Six just aired its season 1 finale, which was absolute perfection. But will the 86 anime have a second season? A special event that’s coming up soon may shed more details on whether Eighty-Six Season 2 is going to be a reality. Here’s a look at everything we know so far.
There are spoilers for the season 1 finale below.
The Anime Hasn’t Yet Been Renewed for Season 2
As of the time of this article’s publication, the Eighty-Six anime hadn’t yet been renewed for a second season. Season 1 ended in a perfect place where we could imagine the characters had a fairly happy ending. Many major plot points were wrapped up, and fans, by and large, agreed that the ending was beautiful.
However, there is still a lot of ground to cover. Season 1 only covered Volumes 1-3 of the light novels, and there are 10 novels so far (with the tenth releasing in May.) And fans who have read the novels say there are some fascinating things that happen, and it would be a shame if they didn’t make it into the anime too.
On top of that, Eighty-Six received some pretty big nominations this year in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
So the combination of the great reception that Eighty-Six has received, plus the fact that there’s a lot of content yet to cover, bodes well for the possibility of the series getting renewed for a second season.
We Might Find Out During the Show’s Anniversary Event in April
Renewal announcements haven’t been made yet, but many fans think it’s just a matter of time. In fact, quite a few fans think we’ll get the good news when the anime celebrates its anniversary event in April.
