The long awaited Rick and Michonne spin-off is almost here! How do we know? Well, from users on Twitter who are casually filming and taking pictures of the new limited series. The working title is The Walking Dead: Summit. Here are what we’ve found on social media, and a little more on what we know about the release date.

The Walking Dead: Summit Currently Filming

Despite the fact that it was initially intended to be an original film produced by AMC for broadcast on television, Universal Pictures has decided to give it a wide theatrical distribution instead. In spite of this, as a result of the epidemic and the news that the series was coming to an end, it evolved into a television miniseries. And we couldn’t be happier, really! Users on Twitter have been sharing some interesting pictures and videos of the sets where both Rick and Michonne meet, played respectively by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira.

The Walking Dead Universe Filming fan account has posted and retweeted quite a few posts lately that has caught fans’ eyes.

The Walking Dead: Summit Release Date

Undead Walking reports that the series will be released in 2024, but a specific date has yet to be announced. We know that the series is going to consist of 6 episodes, and that might be simply too short for most of us to handle! We just enjoyed eleven seasons, how will we be satisfied with 6 episodes? Only time will tell.

What is TWD: Summit About?

The official IMDB synopsis reads “The love story between Rick and Michonne, changed by a world that is constantly changing, will they find themselves in a war against the living or will they discover that they too are The Walking Dead?” Back in December, we wrote about actress Danai Gurira who revealed that the couple’s spin-off show will be set in “another world.”

“[The new series is] very much rooted in the world we know of, and then and then another world that we don’t know yet,” she told the hosts.

Danai went on to explain an aspect of the spin-off that many fans are looking forward to: the love story. She even so far as to call it an “epic love story.”

This plot was supposed to be resolved in a series of “Rick Grimes movies,” however the producers of The Walking Dead decided to instead develop a spin-off series featuring both Rick and Michonne instead of continuing the tale in a film franchise. Co-star Norman Reedus, who portrays the role of Daryl Dixon, has also dropped hints that his own spin-off would go a “different road” than the original series will take.
