Critically acclaimed futuristic open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will be available to play for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S starting March 28th until March 31st. This free trial offers five hours of complete gameplay, allowing players to explore Night City to their heart’s content. Here’s what we know about the Cyberpunk 2077 free trial.

This trial includes all of the game’s updates, such as Update 2.0 which entirely revamps the core gameplay and adds or updates skill trees, vehicle combat, and much more, as well as Update 2.1 which adds new vehicles and new ways to listen to the in-game radio when not inside of a car. For new players of Cyberpunk 2077, progress made in the free trial will carry over into the full version. For those who have played Cyberpunk 2077 previously, it is a great time to jump back into Night City to experience the new changes brought in Updates 2.0 and 2.1.

Before you hit the streets of Night City, be sure to download and check out the official Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition Game Booklet. This booklet contains a dossier of some of Night City’s most prominent inhabitants, as well as information on the spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. You’ll also find recommended builds to get off the ground running, like the Stealth Shotgun Techrunner or the Indestructible Tank, and a list of activities to make the most of the free trial.

What Was in Version 2.1?

Update 2.1 for Cyberpunk 2077 introduces enhancements to Night City life, including:

  • V now has a functional NCART City Pass, enabling travel between 19 metro stations;
  • Introducing Radioport, an implant allowing continuous radio listening, seamlessly transitioning between vehicles and foot travel;
  • Increased danger in Night City with more car chases and gang pursuits based on player actions;
  • Cyberware updates, including Feen-X skeleton and Cogito Lattice integumentary system for RAM regeneration and armor boost respectively;
  • Rebalancing of cyberware, weapon, and Quickhack mechanics, along with a new favorite marking option for weapons.

What is Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in a future filled with neon lights, cyberware enhancements, and megacorporations. Players assume the role of V and can slash, shoot, or hack their way through the game’s narrative-driven story and organizations. It is based on and set in the universe of popular tabletop RPG system Cyberpunk 2020 and the series has made its way to Netflix in the anime-inspired Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. To date, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 25 million copies and consistently tops lists of the best open-world RPG games.

Cyberpunk 2077 was developed by famed studio CD PROJEKT RED, known most prominently for The Witcher series of games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. CD Projekt was created in 1994 by Polish developers Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński and, aside from games like The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, runs the popular digital game store Good Old Games (www.gog.com).
