Stray is a bit of a phenomenon at this point. The cat simulator that topped the “most-anticipated” lists on Steam last month is now topping the “game of the year” lists for reviewers. So is there anything that could possibly make this game better?

Yes, in fact, there is. Modders at Nexus Mods are bombarding the community with mods of Stray that allow you to play as a wide variety of cat types. You’ll see everything from calicos and tabbies to grey domestics and tuxedos. Most of these modders are making versions of their own cats in the game, but others are paying homage to cats that have passed. There’s even one mod to turn your cat into that loveable Garfield.

The Nexus Mods community is so helpful with this very serious humanitarian project that some modders are taking requests while others have made the texture files available for download so anyone (with a bit of modding skill) can turn their cat into the adorable protagonist of the popular post-apocalyptic game.

If you want to go even further with the Stray mods, Nexus Mods users have also made puppy mods, pride pins for the cat’s harness, custom meows, and even cat accessories like glasses and hats.

And, of course, you can also mod yourself with a Stray-themed cat backpack and cat harness available from Travel Cat. So you can make your in-game cat look like your real-life cat who can then look like your in-game cat. Follow?

Stray is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC through Steam.
