Today is not the final Attack on Titan Sunday after all! Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 is confirmed. While anime viewers count down to the final episode airing later today (the subtitled version), we now know that this isn’t the final episode in the series. The show made the announcement after the newest episode aired in Japan several hours before it airs in the U.S. Here are all the details, including a release date window.

Note: There are minor spoilers below based on the short description for Season 4 Part 3.

A Teaser Aired at the End of the Episode Confirming Season 4 Part 3

After Season 4 Episode 28 aired in Japan (aka Episode 87), a teaser was shared at the very end that confirmed this isn’t the end of the series. In fact, we’re getting a Season 4 Part 3, not a movie like many fans had thought.

You can see the teaser below, which was shared on Twitter. This might be slightly spoilerish, but we’re not sure since we haven’t seen the last episode yet.

The Series Will Return in 2023

The good news is that we don’t have to wait too long either. Season 4 Part 3 is going to air in 2023, according to the official website.

This part of the release date is officially confirmed: yes the show is returning in 2023. There were some concerns and rumors circulating that it might take longer than 2023 for the show to come back. But those rumors are wrong.

The official website announced, “The final season final edition will be broadcast on NHK General TV in 2023!”

On the official website, there’s a longer writeup about the announcement. They share (in the Google translated version):

It was announced that the final version of the TV anime “Attack on Titan” The Final Season will be broadcast on NHK General TV in 2023!
In addition, a teaser visual is also released! In the footsteps of the giant after the rumbling, Mikasa, Armin, Levi and other Survey corps, and Reiner, Falco, and Gabi who work together to stop Eren with them are gathered in this visual!

The TV anime “Attack on Titan”, which has continued since 2013, has finally reached its 10th anniversary. Please look forward to 2023!

Yes, it looks like they’re timing Season 4 Part 3 to coincide with the show’s 10th anniversary!

We’re going to guess that they will likely stick to the same schedule they followed for Season 4 Part 2. Season 4 Part 2 premiered on January 9, 2022. So it is likely that Season 4 Part 3 will premiere in early January 2023, perhaps even as early as January 8, 2023. While this date isn’t guaranteed, it would fit a pattern. If they timed it right and delayed the premiere to air slightly later in January 2023, they could even time the final episode to air very closely with when the very first episode aired. Season 1 premiered on April 7, 2013.

There are nine chapters left to animate. The final episode of Season 4 Part 2 covered Chapter 130, and the manga goes through Chapter 139. However, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be more than nine episodes, depending on the pace they take to animate the final part of the series and whether any changes are made between the manga and the anime.
