Adult Swim’s raunchy animated sitcom Rick and Morty is returning for its fifth season this June and a brand new trailer shows off more of the sci-fi/post-apocalyptic goodies we’ve loved about this show since the beginning.

It’s been a year and a half since Season 4 premiered in November of 2019, but now we can look forward to ten new episodes starting June 20, 2021.

The brand new trailer for the series shows off plenty of robotic space battles, giant insect destruction, S&M gear that could arguably double as Mad Max costumes, and a few good Rick one-liners for good measure.

The groundbreaking animated series first launched in 2013 from creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, who also do the main character voices on the show. Rick and Morty has been praised for its unique humor and platform, while currently enjoying a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and dozens of awards including Emmys, Teen Choice Awards, and more.

The series has breached the post-apocalyptic topic several times over the years, including the episodes Rickmancing the Stone and Post-Apocalyptic Dimension. We can only hope that Season 5 has more from our favorite genre.

If you’d like to catch up (or just rewatch) the first four seasons, Hulu has you covered. Season 5 begins at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time on June 20, 2021, only on Adult Swim.

Shawn has been infatuated with the post-apocalyptic genre since he wore out his horribly American-dubbed VHS of the original Mad Max as a child. Shawn is the former Editor-in-Chief at Massively.com, creator of the Aftermath post-apocalyptic immersion event, and author of "AI For All," a guide to navigating this strange new world of artificial intelligence.
He currently resides on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere with his wife and four children.
