Colony is a great post-apocalyptic series that just kicked off its third season on The USA Network, and if you haven’t seen it yet then you really need to correct that error right away. Here’s why.

First, if you’re a little concerned about the USA Network’s ability to handle a post-apocalyptic series about an alien invasion, don’t be. USA is owned by the same company that owns the Syfy Channel. And we all know Syfy has handled post-apoc stories really well, thanks to Battlestar Galactica. Sure, Colony isn’t at the same level as BSG, but if you’re a post-apocalyptic fan then you will definitely want to see the series.

Here’s an official description for the series: “In the not-too-distant future, Los Angeles has been invaded and occupied by outside forces, causing a rift between the city’s residents; some have collaborated with the occupation, while others are rebelling and suffering the consequences that come with that choice. Former FBI agent Will Bowman and his wife, Katie, must consider their familial obligations when making their decision because they were separated from their son, Bram, during the invasion. Proxy Snyder, a cunning and powerful leader within the occupational government, offers Will the opportunity to get Bram back if he works with the invading faction. Will’s decision doesn’t sit well with Katie, but the couple risk their lives — and their relationship — to protect their family.”

This show really delves into what is needed to survive an alien invasion. If you liked the short-lived V series from 2009, then you are definitely going to like Colony. Colony is kind of the spiritual successor of V. Many of the points that people liked about V are also met in Colony, but in many ways they are done much better. Colony also has a feel very similar to Falling Skies. So if you enjoyed the first season of Falling Skies, then you’ll definitely want to check out Colony.

On IMDB, Colony h as a 7.3 out of 10 rating (and for a scifi show, that’s actually really good.) The show is the brainchild of Carlton Cuse (from Lost!) and Ryan J. Condal. It stars Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (Rick’s wife Lori from The Walking Dead.) So it’s already scoring well with the choice of actors: two who have already made names for themselves in shows focused on survival.

If you want to watch Colony, your best bet is through Amazon. Season 3 is already available on Amazon Video as each episode premieres, but you can start from the beginning with Season 1. We really do seriously recommend this series for post-apocalyptic fans. It has everything you could possibly want: survival, destruction, political intrigue, and how families can navigate the minefields of an ever-changing world.
