Attack on Titan Is Officially Returning in January 9, 2022

NHK

According to Shingeki no Kyojin’s official website, the new episode is going to broadcast on NHK  in January 2022.  We weren’t given an exact broadcast date, but we now know exactly what time frame to expect the final season to return. We no longer have to worry about whether or not the show is going to be delayed until December 2022. It’s officially coming back this January! Although that means it’ll be premiering a little later than the first part of Season 4, which started airing in December 2020, it’s not much of a delay.

(UPDATE: We now know the exact date is January 9, 2022!)

The website’s official update also contained a message from Director Yuichiro Hayashi on what to expect in the new season. Here’s Google Translate’s English version:

Thank you for waiting! The Final Season Part 2 will start in January next year! From the large-scale battle in Shiganshina Ward to the story of the origin of the giant, we are finally approaching the climax. We are also taking on many new challenges in terms of images. How that scene will be visualized … Please look forward to it!

There was also a message from Yuki Kaji, who portrays Eren Yeager. He simply said: “If you don’t fight, you can’t win.”

As with previous airings, this means that Hulu, Funimation, and Crunchyroll will also be airing the subtitled English version in January 2022, with each episode premiering a few hours after it premieres in Japan on NHK. All of Funimation’s Attack on Titan episodes are here.

The English dubs will release later on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim. The dubs for the first part of Season 4 still aren’t available on Hulu, as they come out on other streaming services later.

The Next Episode Is Called ‘Judgement’ or ‘Condemnation’

We previously reported that Episode 76 (aka Season 4 Episode 17) will be called “Condemnation.” An official trailer, however, is referring to the new episode in the subtitles as “Judgement.” “Condemnation” was confirmed again in an earlier official announcement. So it’s not 100% clear if it will be Judgement or Condemnation.

On a subreddit discussion, one fan said that while reading the manga and going by the pace that was followed for the first part of Season 4, they believe 16 new episodes would be perfect for wrapping up the story.

Attack on Titan fans were previously also given a teaser visual that showcases a scene from the new season. You can see our analysis of the teaser photo in our story here.

A teaser trailer was also released after Season 4 Episode 16 aired. You can watch the trailer and see our analysis of it in our story here.
