A new post-apocalyptic MMO has entered the ring with The Day Before, an open-world zombie shooter that looks to be very similar to games like The Last of Us and Tom Clancy’s The Division with a little Rust and Left 4 Dead mixed in. Developer Fntastic just announced the game this week with a brand new gameplay demo trailer.

The Day Before is an open-world MMO survival set in a deadly, post-pandemic America overrun by flesh-hungry infected and survivors killing each other for food, weapons, and cars,” the game’s official Steam page describes. “You wake up alone in a world you no longer remember, setting out to find answers and the resources to survive.”

The trailer shows off some interesting features including perimeter voice chat, open PvP and PvE (against hordes of infected), scavenging, crafting, and even player looting. The narrator also mentions open-world trading in something called “The Survivor Colony.”

The Day BeforeAside from the trailer and the brief description, there’s not much else out there about the game. Commenters on IGN’s video picked up on the trailer’s cringey scripted multiplayer voice chat, but there’s no denying that it’s a gorgeous game… or at least a gorgeous trailer. Let’s just hope that the in-game visuals match this trailer at release.

One of the key points that really caught my eye is the “MMO” keyword used here. The term was overused about 10 years ago, but it’s interesting to see it rising back up after the success of other multiplayer online games in the last few years. But is it a MASSIVELY multiplayer game? That part remains to be seen.

Either way, we’re excited to see how this game pans out and we look forward to getting our hands on it!
