A post-apocalyptic Manhattan plays host to a brand new miniseries called DMZ that portrays the events after a second Civil War hits America, leaving the New York City area in ruins.

Rosario Dawson and Benjamin Bratt star in the 4-part miniseries that’s based on the DC comic book of the same name from Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli. The 2005 comic was written in response to the country’s military status after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2011. While the comics focused on photo journalist Matty Roth, this miniseries will explore Rosario Dawson’s character named Alma, who is searching for her son in the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

The trailer shows a very dystopian element with Benjamin Bratt’s character (Parco Delgado) while the scenes of a bombed-out Manhattan are absolutely breath-taking.

“This is abandonment,” Parco yells out to a crowd in the DMZ. “They walled us in!”

The miniseries is directed by Ava DuVernay and Ernest Dickerson and written by Roberto Patino. It also stars Freddy Miyares as Skel, Hoon Lee as Wilson, and Jordan Preston Carter as Odi.

“You’ll be stuck in an active war zone,” Alma is warned as she sets out to find her son on Manhattan Island. But she eventually finds much more than her son.

All four episodes of DMZ will premiere on HBO Max on March 17, 2022.
