Politician Creates ‘Attack on Titan’ Video & Misses Point of Anime Entirely

Rep. Paul Gosar released a parody video of Attack on Titan and managed to miss the point of the anime entirely. The video was every bit as cringe-inducing as you would guess. But the even worse part was how it thoroughly missed the anime’s message entirely. Politicians really need to stop trying to just stop. 🙄

This article is anime-focused only and contains no manga spoilers.

Watch the Video Below

I guess you can give politicians credit for at least trying? Maybe, but not much. The video missed the point of the anime so thoroughly that it was kind of insulting. Here’s the video, if you’re wanting to feel compelled to face palm about 1,000 times over the course of 90 seconds.

Attack on Titan shouldn’t be used for either party showing that they are attacking the other or that they are the ultimate good guy.  That’s not what the anime is about. Yikes.

Here’s the original video he’s basing his upon. It’s from season one, so I guess he didn’t get very far (or even watch it at all.)

The video begins with him showing himself and the White House with a red background which I guess imitates the background of Eren and all his comrades at the beginning of the original intro. Then he takes shots from the intro that showed Titans breaking into the walls to devour and eat people, and he replaced that with shots of immigrants, because that’s not insulting or overdoing things at all.

Cue to lots of random shots of border patrol people patroling the border and apparently being Eren and the Survey Corps. 🙄🙄🙄 Can I roll my eyes any harder. I *think* Marjorie Taylor Greene is Annie in this one? Yeah, he definitely didn’t watch this anime very far. And then Boebert is Mikasa. 🙄 And he’s Eren, I’m pretty sure. 🙄

Some people are saying that AOC is one of the Titans. To be honest, if you can identify who is supposed to be the Titans in these shots below, then you’re better than I am. It’s just absurdly awful.

Now cue to more random military shots that I don’t recognize. I just don’t know, whatever. Then a random shot of Gosar obviously portrayed as Eren, followed by Biden as the Colossal Titan because we really didn’t have enough cringe moments already.

Yep, missing the point. 🙄

Any political party who tries to make an video based on Attack on Titan that portrays them destroying the other political party is missing the point of this anime entirely.

SPOILERS BELOW

Meanwhile on the Attack on Titan subreddit, people had a few things to say about this video. BEWARE OF SPOILERS. If you’re not caught up on this anime, there could be major spoilers below or in any of the links.

One person wrote: “I cant believe he made a show (initially) about breaking out of the walls – into this border control propaganda. I’m in awe at the sheer irony.”

A big part of the anime is about mistreatment of others and not falling into your own belief system to the point that you start making an “enemy” out of “the other.” Which makes the video quite the irony.

Another thread:

AOT doubtlessly is an anime about politics (among other things) but not *this* politics, lol from ShingekiNoKyojin

This quote probably explains exactly what happened.
